Report of Suspicious Male Leads to Foot Pursuit and Arrest
On Friday October 20, 2023 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Owen Sound Police were contacted by concerned citizens about a suspicious man exiting a residence on 29th Street West in the City of Owen Sound. Officers attended and located the man who was riding a bicycle in the area. The man provided Police Officers with a false identity in an attempt to avoid being arrested on two outstanding bench warrants. Upon coming to the realization that his true identity was known to the officers, the man fled from police.
Officers contained the man in the area of Kelso Beach at Nawash Park and were able to take him into custody after a foot chase that spanned several city blocks. In addition to the execution of the arrest warrants, the man was also found in possession of three prohibited weapons, stolen passports, stolen identity documents and a men’s watch that had been reported stolen to Winnipeg Police in June of this year.
The 44- year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with ten criminal offences including Obstructing Police, Possession of Prohibited Weapons, Possession of Stolen Property and multiple counts of Breach of his Probation Order.
The man remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
