Learn About Us

Ontario's Bill 68, Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), came into effect on April 1, 2024, replacing the Police Services Act (1990). The CSPA focuses on addressing community safety, enhancing police oversight, modernizing policing and establishing consistent mandated training requirements. You can consult the full CSPA on the Government of Ontario’s website.

The Owen Sound Police Service is a municipal police agency  operating within the legislative authority of the CSPA. Police officers and civilian members, including Special Constables, provide 24-hour a day policing services within the City of Owen Sound. A network of volunteers, such as the Auxiliary Police, assist OSPS with the delivery of many of initiatives.

A Special Constable's vest says "SPECIAL CONSTABLE" in blue, and their hat's band is blue. A Special Constable is a civilian member and does not carry a firearm or taser.

An Auxiliary Police Officer's vest says "AUXILIARY" in red, and their hat's band is red and checkered. An Auxiliary Officer is a volunteer member of the OSPS and works alongside a Police Officer or a Special Constable.
