MAN CHARGED AFTER FAILING TO STOP FOR POLICE
During the early morning hours of Sunday June 4, 2023 Owen Sound Police were conducting traffic observations for excessive speeding and potential impaired drivers on 8th Street East. At approximately 1:40 a.m. an officer observed a Chevrolet truck travelling eastbound at more than 40 km/hr over the speed limit, a rate of speed that was confirmed by radar. Police attempted to pull over the vehicle however the driver failed to stop, and nearly struck a guard rail at 28th Avenue East. The vehicle fled from the area eastbound on Highway #26.
A subsequent investigation was conducted by Owen Sound Police which resulted in the identification of the driver as a 41-year-old resident of Meaford, Township. Immediately prior to driving, the man had just left a licensed premises in Owen Sound.
On June 14th Owen Sound Police arrested and charged the man with Dangerous Operation of a vehicle and Failing to Stop for Police under the Criminal Code as well as Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. The man’s driver’s license has been automatically suspended for 14 days and he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 6, 2023 to answer to the charges.
