IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES LAID AFTER WOMAN STRIKES STOP SIGN
On Sunday August 6, 2023 just prior to 2:30 p.m. a 47- year-old Owen Sound woman was driving her 2019 Toyota Corolla northbound on East Bayshore Road. As she attempted to turn right onto 32nd Street she struck a stop sign at the intersection. The driver failed to remain at the scene and did not report the incident to police. The Stop Sign receiving substantial damage.
Owen Sound Police were contacted by a witness and an investigation was initiated. As police investigated at the scene, the driver responsible for the collision attempted to pass the investigating officer in her vehicle as this was her only means of vacating the area. The officer directed the driver to stop her vehicle which had substantial damage to the front fender.
After briefly speaking with the driver, police determined that she was under the influence of alcohol and a roadside screening test was administered. The woman failed this test and was arrested and transported to the police station. Breath samples obtained at the station revealed that her blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit to drive.
The vehicle of the accused was impounded for seven days and her driver’s license has been automatically suspended for 90 days. The woman is scheduled to appear in court to answer to charges of impaired driving, driving with an excess blood alcohol level and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
There were no injuries involved in this incident.
