Today, Owen Sound Police Service kicked off Ontario’s annual Crime Prevention Week, which runs from November 3 to 9, 2024.
On Monday November 4, 2024 at approximately 8:30 a.m. a school bus carrying students was struck from behind in the 800 block of 16th Avenue East, Owen Sound.
An investigation conducted by Owen Sound Police Service concluded that the bus was attempting to complete a left- turn to enter the parking lot of East Ridge Community School when it was hit from behind by a 2017 Dodge Ram truck.
On November 1, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. a man walked into the lobby of the Owen Sound Police Station after having been stabbed in the torso in the area of the 900 block of 3rd Avenue East.
The man was provided with first aid by Police Officers and was transported to Brightshores Hospital by Grey County E.M.S.
On October 28, 2024 at approximately 9 p.m. a lone male entered a west-side convenience store and handed the clerk a letter demanding money. The male then verbalized that it was a robbery and demanded the cash from the register. After obtaining an undisclosed quantity of cash, the male fled from the store.
The Owen Sound Police Service Citizens' Police Academy (CPA) is an opportunity for interested community members to take a deep dive into the world of policing operations here in Owen Sound. The program runs annually for eight weeks, on consecutive Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the police station at 922 2nd Avenue West, Owen Sound. The program is free of charge and is open to anyone with an interest in policing and a desire to learn. The next Citizens' Police Academy will run from January 15 - March 5, 2025.
On Tuesday October 8th, 2024 at 08:20 a.m. a fail to remain, motor vehicle collision occurred involving two vehicles travelling westbound on 10th Street East, Owen Sound. A Pontiac Vibe caused the collision by rear-ending a second vehicle before immediately fleeing from the area. The Owen Sound Police Service responded to the scene and an investigation was commenced.
Bell 911 has advised that all 911 lines have been successfully repaired. The Owen Sound Emergency Communications Centre has processed several test calls and confirms that our dispatchers are now actively answering all 911 lines.
We would like to thank our dispatch partner agency that worked alongside our dispatchers today to ensure no call went unanswered.
The Owen Sound Police Service would like to notify the public that the 911 system is currently experiencing technical difficulties.
Bell 911 continues to work on the routing issues specific only to 911. If there is a need to call 911, calls will continue to be processed within the Owen Sound Emergency Communication Centre (OSECC) and through partner agencies in order to ensure no one call goes unserved. This disruption impacts a larger area than OSECC and Bell Canada continues to work on the routing issues.
On Friday September 20, 2024 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Owen Sound Police utilized Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology (A.L.P.R.) to locate and recover a 2023 Nissan Murano that had been reported stolen to the Chatham-Kent Police Service in August.
