Civilian Positions
The Owen Sound Police service employs more than 50 civilian staff including full- and part-time Communicators (Dispatchers), Switchboard Operators, Records Clerks, IT, and administrative personnel. There are also full and part-time Cell Block Monitors, and Special Constables who serve primarily as court security. These are rewarding positions that compliment the Service with specialized expertise, and in some cases, can lead to a career as a police officer.
OSPS is always recruiting for the position of Communicators (Dispatcher).
The Owen Sound Emergency Communications Centre (OSECC) is a very diverse Communication Centre or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). It is one of only a few in Ontario that dispatches for multiple police and fire departments. OSECC currently dispatches for 6 police services and more than 40 fire departments across Grey, Bruce, Huron, and Perth counties.
The Communication Centre is a very busy environment resulting in a very satisfying career. There’s something new every day. You never know what’s going to be happening on the other end of the phone but you know that you’ve helped someone in a critical time in their life.
