Two Vehicle Collision Sends Five Involved Passengers To Hospital
On July 7th, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of 8th Avenue East and 20th Street East, Owen Sound, which sent all involved drivers and passengers to hospital. The Owen Sound Police Service, along with Grey County Paramedics and Fire, responded.
Involved was a mid-sized Kia SUV, travelling westbound on 20th Street with the right of way. The second vehicle, a Volkswagen SUV, had stopped at the stop sign in a south-bound direction. The Volkswagen proceeded into the intersection when the roadway was not clear or safe to do so, causing the collision. Airbags in both vehicles were fully deployed and both SUV’s sustained significant damage.
In the Volkswagen, there were two female occupants, both whom were sent by Ambulance to Brightshores Health System for treatment of their injuries. In the Kia, there were three occupants, all also requiring medical attention, and were transported by Ambulance. At the time of the incident it was not known what seriousness the injuries entailed. Follow up was conducted by the investigating officer in the days after the collision and later learned that the passenger of the Volkswagen was airlifted to a larger center Hospital after having sustained serious, but not life threatening, injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen, an 80 year old female from Etobicoke, was charged with careless driving and driving without a valid licence.
