Two Impaired Drivers Over The Weekend
On Friday November 8th 2024 at 8:20 p.m. an Owen Sound Police officer observed a motorist texting while driving on 10th Street West. The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered an open can of beer inside the vehicle as well as a small package of cannabis in the centre console. The officer conducted a roadside screening test with the driver which resulted in a fail.
The driver was taken to Owen Sound Police Services for further breath testing which confirmed he was over the legal limit. The 28-year man from Owen Sound was charged with Operating a motor vehicle with excess of 80mgs of alcohol in his blood, as well as 5 other Provincial Offences, including driving while using a hand-held device; driving a motor vehicle with open alcohol and driving with cannabis readily available. The driver will appear in court later this month.
On Saturday November 9th 2024 at 8:56 p.m. an Owen Sound motorist observed a vehicle driving erratically. The motorist observed the vehicle conduct an unusually wide turn and travel southbound on 3rd Avenue West in the northbound lane. The motorist remained in the area and noted the vehicle continued to drive around the same block numerous times, failing to stop for stop signs. The police stopped the vehicle and the investigation led police to suspect the driver had been drinking. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was taken to the police station for further breath testing which confirmed they were nearly twice the legal limit. The 59-year-old female from Owen Sound will attend court later this month to answer the impaired driving charges.
In both instances these drivers had their vehicle impounded for 7 days and their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
