Robbery and Weapons Incident Update - Male Wanted

As previously reported on August 23, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, on August 18, 2024, officers from the Owen Sound Police Service attended an east side apartment building in response to a male being assaulted in the parking lot and another male with a gun. Officers located an unresponsive male at the scene who had been assaulted and was then taken to Bright Shores hospital by EMS. The condition of the male deteriorated at hospital and he was later air lifted to London Health Sciences for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Officers on scene arrested a male and recovered an air pistol, an expandable baton and a knife. Richard McWatch was charged with ten offences including Pointing a Firearm and Careless Use of a Firearm and was held in custody.  Members of the Criminal Investigation Branch and the Forensic Identification Unit were called out to investigate. The investigation revealed that two males had attended the apartment parking lot, where they met the victim. Immediately, one male assaulted the victim, who dropped to the ground unconscious. The two males then removed property from the victim and fled. The male who had been in the company of the victim then obtained an air pistol and chased after the fleeing males, shooting out the windows of their vehicle as it fled, as well as a bus shelter. Shortly after the incident, that vehicle was located at an industrial property on the City’s east side and was seized. A search warrant was later executed on the vehicle resulting in the seizure of drugs including over $4000.00 in Methamphetamine and Fentanyl, as well as weapons and other evidence.  On August 22nd, CIB members arrested Kurtis Miller, who remains in custody after being charged with eight offences including Aggravated Assault, Robbery and drug offences.

This incident remained under investigation and as a result, David Ward (pictured below) - 31 years old of No Fixed Address, has been charged with Robbery and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.  A warrant for the arrest of this male is outstanding as he is evading police.

The victim remains in hospital in critical but stable condition.
