Robbery and Weapons Incident

On August 18,2024 at approximately 5:00 pm, officers from the Owen Sound Police Service attended an east side apartment building in response to a male being assaulted in the parking lot and another male with a gun. Officers located an unresponsive male at the scene who had been assaulted that was taken to Bright Shores hospital by EMS. That condition of the male deteriorated at hospital and he was later air lifted to London Health Sciences for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Officers discovered that the window of a nearby bus shelter had been shot out and that prior to their arrival, a male had been firing a pistol at a fleeing vehicle. Officers on scene arrested a male and recovered an air pistol, an expandable baton and a knife. That male was charged with numerous offences and held in custody.  Members of the Criminal Investigation Branch and the Forensic Identification Unit were called out to investigate. The investigation over the past week revealed that two males had attended the apartment parking lot and were met by two other males. Immediately, one male assaulted another who dropped to the ground unconscious. Two of the males then removed property from the male and fled. The male who had been in the company of the injured male then obtained an air pistol and chased after the fleeing males, shooting out the windows of their vehicle as it fled and the bus shelter. Shortly after the incident, the vehicle that had fled the scene was located at an industrial property on the City’s east side and seized. A search warrant was later executed on the vehicle resulting in the seizure of drugs including over $4000.00 in methamphetamine and Fentanyl as well as weapons and other evidence. On August 22nd, the Criminal Investigations Branch arrested another male who was held for a bail hearing today. This incident remains under investigation. The male that had been injured remains in critical but stable condition. The two males that have been charged as a result of this incident are:

Richard McWatch – 46 years old of Owen Sound is charged with 10 offences including pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

Kurtis Miller – 22 years old of No Fixed Address is charged with 8 offences including Aggravated Assault, Robbery and drug and weapons offences.
