MEDIA RELEASE

OSPS Participates in Successful Mock Active Shooter Exercise at Brightshores Health System

Brightshores Health System, in collaboration with Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS), successfully conducted an "Active Shooter" mock exercise on May 9 at the 8-Unit building adjacent to Owen Sound Hospital.

The initiative was organized under the leadership of Brightshores’ Contingency Planning Committee in partnership with OSPS and aimed to test and enhance emergency preparedness and response measures in the event of a real active shooter situation.

The exercise involved many volunteers participating in a shooting scenario, while police and staff wore identifiable vests while they oversaw the events. The scenario was designed to simulate a realistic and dynamic active shooter situation.

Safety and security protocols were followed and a section of the hospital complex was temporarily closed during the exercise.

We extend our gratitude to the participants, staff, and volunteers for their cooperation and understanding during this critical training event. This successful exercise is a testament to our ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.
