Man Charged With Robberies And Several Other Criminal Offences
On March 17, 2024 at about 5:30 pm, a male attended a Pharmacy located in Owen Sound and once inside, disguised himself by covering the lower portion of his face. He then attended the pharmacy area, brandished a utility knife towards staff members and fled the scene with a quantity of cash. Uniformed officers attended and searched the area, but were unable to locate the subject.
The investigation continued with members of the Criminal Investigations Branch, the Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit (CORE) and members of the Uniform Branch, with respect to interviewing witnesses and victims, gathering video evidence and looking for the subject.
On March 22, 2024 just after 9:00am, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to an armed robbery in progress at a different Pharmacy in Owen Sound. The male of No Fixed Address disguised himself, brandished a knife and threatened staff at the business. The male stole a quantity of cash as well as a quantity of fentanyl patches. The male then fled on foot and was arrested a short distance away by responding officers.
Further investigation revealed that the man, reportedly from Thunder Bay, was responsible for the March 17th incident as well.
As a result, the man was charged with two counts of Robbery with a Weapon, two counts of Disguise with Intent, two counts of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, three counts of Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Carry Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.00. The male was remanded into custody with his next court appearance being Monday March 25, 2024.
