Man Charged in Attempted Robbery
On March 2, 2024, the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a 911 call on the upper east side of Owen Sound after a man attempted to rob a taxi driver at knife point.
The driver told Police that his fare/client pulled a knife on him after he drove him to an agreed upon address. Once they arrived, the suspect demanded that the taxi driver exit the vehicle so the suspect could steal it. The driver complied, however the suspect was unable to get the vehicle into gear to drive away. The taxi driver managed to regain possession of the vehicle keys and call Police.
Knowing officers were on their way, the suspect took off on foot but was located and taken into Police custody a short distance away. Officers seized the knife used in the attempted robbery as evidence. The taxi driver did not sustain any injuries and the vehicle was undamaged.
The 48 year old man, of no fixed address, was charged with assault with a weapon, robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, theft and possession of property obtained by crime. He was held pending a bail hearing on March 3rd, 2024, and was subsequently remanded into custody.
