Delivery Driver Failed To Stop For School Bus
The Owen Sound Police Service wants to remind drivers that with 2 weeks left of school, safety on our roads remain a top priority. Earlier this week, the Owen Sound Police investigated a complaint where it was alleged that a vehicle disregarded the illuminated emergency lights on a school bus while students were about to cross.
With the help of the school bus driver and students on the bus, the Owen Sound Police were provided with the vehicle licence plate and a detailed description of the driver. It was determined that the male driver was actually employed by a delivery company. The company was contacted and the driver was then identified and charged with Fail to Stop for School Bus Signal Lights – Meeting, contrary to section 175(11) of the Highway Traffic Act. The offence carries a fine of $490 and 6 demerit points.
Are you a business owner with a fleet of vehicles? The Ontario Highway Traffic Act allows the owner of the company to be charged with this offence even if they were not the driver.
