Cyclist Collides With Transport Truck In Downtown Owen Sound
On July 18th, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., a section of 10th Street East between 2nd Avenue East and 3rd Avenue East, was shut down for approximately half an hour while the Owen Sound Police Service investigated a collision that occurred involving a transport truck and a cyclist.
The transport truck was travelling eastbound on 10th Street East with through traffic (green light), when the cyclist entered the intersection travelling northbound on 2nd Avenue East. Traffic was heavy at that time. Initial reports were that the cyclist became trapped underneath the transport, however this was determined not to be the case. The section of roadway was blocked by Police to provide a safe environment for Paramedics to assist the cyclist and provide medical attention.
No charges have been laid at this time, however the details of the cyclists actions are being confirmed. The cyclist, a 35 year old female, suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result and was transported to Brightshores Health System by Ambulance. Damage to the bicycle was significant, leaving it inoperable.
