Break and Enter Suspect Arrested After Foot Chase With Police – Stolen Property Recovered
The Owen Sound Police Service responded to multiple break and enter and theft complaints over the weekend in various locations throughout the City.
During the morning of May 10th officers were called to investigate multiple break and enters reported at a westside business. Video surveillance captured the male thief arriving overnight. Using the cover of darkness to his advantage the male entered a locked outbuilding where merchandise was stored, stealing goods including a wireless debit machine. The male also entered private property that was being stored at the business where he stole various personal items.
Later, on May 10th police were called to an eastside business for a shoplift in progress. Upon arrival, the male thief fled from police on a bicycle through private property and was able to escape. The theft was captured on store surveillance.
During the afternoon of May 11th, police were called to a westside apartment building where it was reported that a male suspect had entered a locked office room and stole cheques, cash and keys to the building. Police determined that this was the same male from the break and enter and shoplifting incidents on May 10th.
On May 12th police observed the male suspect along the east harbor wall. Upon recognizing officer, the male fled on foot behind businesses in the area. Police gave chase on foot and located the male who was attempting to flee over a fence. The male was taken into custody and police located most of the items that had been reported stolen in the previous incidents.
The 34 year-old male of no fixed address was held for a bail hearing. The male was also determined to be wanted by the Saugeen Shores Police for similar offences.
