On December 5^th, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado truck was stolen from an apartment building parking lot on the east side of Owen Sound.

A spare key, found by the accused, inside the vehicle was used to start the truck and a witness advised Owen Sound Police that the truck was seen leaving in a southbound direction.

Responding Police Officers soon located the stolen and undamaged truck abandoned and began to follow a single set of footprints in the snow.  Officers tracked the footprints for several city blocks as they travelled through private yards, and over fences.  Police were able to utilize video surveillance evidence from the destination in which the offender fled to, which positively identified him. 

On December 5, 2024 at 8:10 p.m. city Police Officers attended at the man’s residence and arrested him without incident.

The 34- year-old Owen Sound man was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.  The man is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on in January of 2025 to answer to the charges.
