Impaired Driving Charges Laid in Two Christmas Day Incidents

Posted on January 18, 2022

Owen Sound Police Service Officers charged two Owen Sound residents with Impaired Driving in separate incidents on Christmas Day.

Just after 5:00 a.m. an officer was patrolling an east- side residential neighborhood when he observed an oncoming vehicle travelling with no headlights on and straddling the center line of the roadway.  The vehicle was stopped by police and the 18- year-old, unlicensed driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The man later provided samples of his breath which revealed that he had consumed more than twice the legal limit of alcohol prior to driving.  The driver’s license of the accused was automatically suspended and his vehicle was impounded.  The accused has a court date in January, 2022 to answer to the charges.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. officers were called to a large east side commercial parking lot where a car had driven over a curb and into a treed area.  The vehicle struck a shopping cart and came to rest in a ditch.  Upon arrival, Officer’s investigated a male driver and a female passenger who were both passed out in the front seats of the vehicle.  Police determined that the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by the consumption of drugs.  The man was arrested and found in possession of Fentanyl.   Charges of Impaired Driving by a Drug, Possession of Fentanyl and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order were laid against the 38- year-old Owen Sound man who is scheduled to attend court in January, 2022.   The vehicle involved in the incident was towed from the scene.
