Horse Barn Mischiefs

Posted on August 3, 2022

Between June and July of 2022, the Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit (C.O.R.E), of the Owen Sound Police Service, conducted an investigation into numerous and ongoing acts of mischief to the building known as the “Horse Barn” on the fair-grounds property. Numerous public complaints regarding spray painting and other damage had been received.

Following the investigation, three female youths were identified for having committed mischief by spray painting, and 2 male youth were identified after an attempted break and enter. All five youths were diverted through the YMCA youth diversion program.

The YMCA Youth Diversion Program is an alternative to court. Police can use diversion to hold a young person accountable for their behavior and make up for their mistakes through various tasks including participation in a justice circle, verbal or written apologies, community service, compensation etc.

Owen Sound Police would like to thank members of the community for their assistance.
